Although it was widely anticipated that Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event would feature the AirPods Max 2, September 9 came and went without an announcement of a new iteration of the company’s over-ear headphones. Although there were rumors circulating that the AirPods Max 2 would be unexpectedly released during Apple’s event, the actual changes to the existing AirPods Max’s quality of life were far more limited.
The most significant modification made to the existing AirPods Max is the USB-C port that replaces the Lightning port, bringing the device in line with the rest of Apple’s lineup. Furthermore, Apple has introduced a few eye-catching new hues, such as Midnight, Orange, Starlight, Blue, and Purple. However, it appears that we’ll have to wait a while longer to see a proper upgrade to Apple’s most premium AirPods.
Understandably, the AirPods Max 2 still have a lot of buzz around them. The current AirPods Max are, without a doubt, the best AirPods to date – not only are they the only Apple-branded over-ears on the market, but they offer truly fantastic audio quality, deeply immersive spatial audio and excellent noise-canceling tech. And while the AirPods’ stablemates, Beats, offer plenty of great over-ears, the best Beats headphones still can’t rival the AirPods Max for sheer audio quality, comfort or features.
